The Face on Mars
Unique blend of fiction, legitimate science
and philosophy
about NASA's Face on Mars

Few authors have attempted to present a serious philosophical work in the
form of a novel. Still fewer would seek to incorporate legitimate
scientific concepts into what is primarily a science fiction mystery. In
The Face on Mars we have just such an unusual blend of ingredients.
Although intended to inspire thought into the nature and purpose of the
universe, it will have definite appeal to a wide audience of readers. To
those who enjoy a good mystery plot, replete with adventure and suspense, it
promises to provide an ample serving.
Set in the 21st century, the story focuses around man's initial journey to
the planet, Mars. In an endeavor to resolve a controversy as to whether
the "Face" - first discovered by a Viking orbiter probe in 1976 - is an
alien artifact or merely a fluke of nature, an excursion is made to this
enigmatic structure. What the explorers find upon reaching this peculiar
rock formation (about a mile across and some 1,500 feet high) is little short of
astounding. In fact, it threatens to undermine many of mankind's cherished
beliefs.
Inherent in the story is a discourse on philosophical issues raised by
evolution. (Where, for instance, can one draw the line as to when
emerging man is capable of spiritual immortality - to the exclusion of other
life forms. Is there some hitherto undiscovered connection between our
expanding universe and the very principle of evolution and cosmic
reincarnation? Reality, as the reader may well discover, could turn out to
be far stranger than fiction.
